3 mouth-watering cocktails you can create from home

Cocktails at The George

Whether it’s after a long day at work or as the weekend vibes kick in, nothing quite beats sipping on a crafty cocktail to tantalize your tastebuds. And what better than creating your own mix in the comfort of your own home? With a few simple ingredients and a splash of creativity, even a cocktail novice can become an at-home mixologist.

Here, The George at Kilsby’s very own cocktail-shaking bartender shares three of their mouth-watering mixes that promise to impress your friends and family at your next get-together.

Classic Mojito

Does a Mojito ever get old? We didn’t think so either. For us, it’s a timeless and refreshing classic bursting with vibrant flavours. Here’s how to make one:

Ingredients:

The juice of 1 lime

1 teaspoon of sugar

A handful of mint leaves (plus extra for the top)

60ml of white rum

A splash of soda water

Ice (ideally, crushed)

How to create:

  1. In a glass, muddle the lime juice, sugar and mint leaves (you can do this using the end of a rolling pin or wooden spoon if you don’t have a muddler to hand)
  2. Pour into a tall glass
  3. Add a handful of ice
  4. Pour over the rum and give your drink a stir
  5. Top up with as much soda water as required, depending on taste
  6. Top with a sprig of mint before serving

Fancy a non-alcoholic alternative? Simply get rid of the rum, and you’ll have yourself a Mojito mocktail.

At The George at Kilsby, we’re never one to shy away from experimenting behind the bar – and Mojitos give us a fantastic opportunity to try some new flavours. As well as your classic Mojito, we offer raspberry, strawberry and passion fruit alternatives.

Cocktails at The GeorgeMargarita

Can’t decide what type of cocktail you fancy? Made with a combination of tequila, triple sec and fresh lime juice, Margaritas offer the perfect balance of sweet, sour and salt. And for a twist on the traditional Margarita, why don’t you try adding crushed fruit for a fun flavour combination?

Ingredients:

Ice cubes

50ml of tequila

25ml of lime juice

20ml triple sec

Salt and lime wedges for glass rim

How to create:

  1. Grab your glass and rub a wedge of lime around the rim
  2. Sprinkle some salt onto a small plate and dip the rim of your glass onto the salt
  3. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice (if you don’t have a cocktail shaker, any medium sized-jar with a lid will do the job)
  4. Add the tequila, lime juice and triple sec
  5. Shake well
  6. Pour into the lime-rimmed glass you prepared earlier

For a mocktail alternative replace the tequila and triple sec with a splash of orange juice and a teaspoon of honey. Once poured, consider topping up with soda water.

Gin Fizz

If you’re looking for something more elegant to impress your loved ones, try mixing up your very own Gin Fizz. And the best bit? You can create an impressive-looking Gin Fizz in three simple steps. Of course, the fun part with this one is the experimenting you can do with flavours.

Basic ingredients:

55ml Gin

30ml Lemon juice

Prosecco

Lemon peel to garnish

How to create:

  1. Pour the gin and lemon juice into a champagne flute, before stirring well
  2. Top with chilled prosecco
  3. Garnish with the lemon peel twists and serve

If you want to add a fruity note to your drink, then consider crushed blackberries or a dash of Chambord (or a raspberry liquor). For something sweet, add elderflower liqueur and for more aromatic flavours, try fresh basil leaves.

For a mocktail version simply swap the gin for a low or 0% gin and mix with either a non-alcoholic prosecco or tonic water.
