Fishing

The George is conveniently situated as a base for fishing, with Drayton Reservoir, Draycote Water, Clattercote Reservoir and Boddington Reservoir all within easy travelling distance.

Ashby St. Ledgers

The nearby village of Ashby St. Ledgers is very picturesque, and is famous for its association with the Catesby family, and the village’s involvement in the Gunpowder Plot.

Lutterworth

John Wycliffe, translator of the Bible from Latin into English in the 1300s lived, and was vicar of the nearby town of Lutterworth. Lutterworth was also where Sir Frank Whittle lived and developed the jet engine.

Stanford Hall, Stanford-on-Avon

Built in the 1690s, it is one of the finest examples of the architecture of the period. The house and gardens are open to the public on Sundays and bank holiday Mondays between April and September. Crick Boat Show

The Crick Boat Show is held over the May bank holiday weekend in the nearby village of Crick. The marina is open for people to look at the narrow boats, go on board historic boats, learn about the history of the waterways, as well as stalls selling narrow boat equipment and parts, and various other attractions. The nearby village of Braunston also holds an annual boat show.

Rugby

The historic market town of Rugby, home of Rugby Football is about five miles away from The George. Rugby has a large amount of high street shopping, as well as a cinema, bowling alley, several museums and an art gallery.

Royal Show, Stoneleigh

The Royal Show, the most prestigious agricultural event of the year is held at Stoneleigh, about twenty miles away from The George every July. The Royal Show celebrates all aspects of farming and rural life, as well as shopping, food, flowers, crafts, country pursuits, equestrian competitions and arena displays.

Althorp

England’s second city, home of the NEC, NIA and Bullring Shopping Centre is within easy reach of The George, both by road and rail. There are frequent trains to Birmingham from Rugby station (five miles from The George).

Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare is approximately thirty miles from The George.
